‘Awarapan 2’ has become the biggest hit of Emraan Hashmi‘s career, marking the first time a film led by him has crossed the 100-crore mark. The movie’s worldwide collections have gone past Rs 150 crore, redeeming the reputation of its predecessor, which had flopped at the box office. Given this success and the film’s open-ended ending, fans are now wondering whether a third installment could be in the works. Writer Bilal Siddiqui recently hinted that something might indeed be brewing, though he stopped short of confirming any concrete plans.By the end of ‘Awarapan 2’, Shivam (Emraan Hashmi) manages to save the trafficked children from Zorawar’s (Puran Gabbi) hold. It’s later revealed that Nafisa (Shabana Azmi), Zorawar’s rival, had backed Shivam’s mission, but not without a price, having secured his services in return. The film closes with Shivam now part of Nafisa’s gang, signaling that his story is set to continue.
Bilal on Shabana Azmi’s role in the film
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Bilal spoke about Shabana Azmi’s role in the film and said, “She has that solid presence where, even if you don’t see her on screen throughout the film, she is manipulating the character’s journey without him even realising. I think it was a very crucial role, and she’s hopefully set up for greater things.”
Is ‘Awarapan 3 ’ really happening?
On asking about ‘Awarapan 3’ in the works? Bilal responds, “As for part three, Vishesh (Bhatt, the film’s producer) and I have not had time to speak beyond just a few messages after the film came out. I am yet to hear from him what his plans are. I hope he thinks of it soon, of taking it forward soon, and then we’ll see what it is. I’m very excited.”At the moment, Bilal admits he’s simply glad to see Awarapan 2 doing well. “I’m so happy that Vishesh has managed to realise his vision with this film because he was very passionate about bringing Awarapan back, and now that it’s come back, it’s also done well.” Even as he enjoys the moment, the writer is careful not to let the success go to his head. “It feels good for sure. But, I’m still resuming my week as always. It’s not changing anything. But it feels good. I’ve only worked on books and shows before this. This is my first film. So it’s the first time I’ve had to look at or had the anxiety of seeing the (box office) numbers. I know it shouldn’t be something that dictates you, but you can’t help but look at it, too. It just feels like a nice zone to be in,” says Bilal.
