After remaining delayed for several years, Vemal and Shriya Saran’s Tamil film ‘Sandakari’ is finally set to reach the big screen. The project, which has attracted attention for its prolonged journey to theatres and its popular cast, will arrive as a romantic comedy with family emotions, workplace conflict and humour at its core. Directed by R Madhesh, the film is now scheduled for a theatrical release on September 18.
‘Sandakari’ release date confirmed for September 18
The makers announced the release date of ‘Sandakari’ on Monday, coinciding with Ganesh Chathurthi. The announcement brings an end to the uncertainty surrounding the film, which had been awaiting a theatrical release for years.‘Sandakari’ is the Tamil remake of filmmaker Jeethu Joseph’s 2012 Malayalam comedy ‘My Boss’, which starred Dileep and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles. R Madhesh had earlier stated that the original screenplay was adapted with changes to suit Tamil audiences and their sensibilities.
Vemal and Shriya Saran headline the Tamil remake
‘Sandakari’ revolves around characters working at a prominent software company based in London. Shriya Saran plays a senior executive at the firm, while Vemal portrays a software employee working in the same organisation. Their professional relationship forms the backdrop for the film’s romantic and comic situations. Sathyan is said to play a character caught between the two central roles, while veteran actor Prabhu has an important part in the narrative. The cast also includes K R Vijaya and producer Punnagai Poo Geetha.The film has been shot across several international and Indian locations, including London, New York, Venice, Goa and Kochi.
‘Sandakari’ won three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards before its release
Interestingly, ‘Sandakari’ made headlines even before its theatrical arrival after receiving three honours at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. The film won the award for Best Film (Third Prize), while Amrish was recognised as Best Playback Singer (Male) and Iyyappan received the honour for Best Art Director. The recognition drew attention because the film had not yet been released in cinemas at the time.
‘Sandakari’ technical crew and release expectations
The music for ‘Sandakari’ has been composed by Amresh, while RB Gurudhev has handled cinematography. Dinesh is credited with editing the film.
