This new addition to the franchise marks another step in the studio’s ongoing effort to explore the origins and early years of the Warren family’s supernatural investigations.According to Dread Central, Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix were cast in the new prequel titled ‘The Conjuring: First Communion’. The 24-year-old actor Wareing took on the role of the younger Ed Warren, while Canadian actress Amanda Fix played the younger Lorraine Warren. Directed by Rodrigue Huart, the prequel film was co-written by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing. Shooting had begun on the feature, with production moving forward on the prequel project.

The actor had been working since he was 13 years old, making his acting debut in the Dustin Hoffman film ‘Boychoir’ in 2014. His notable film roles included ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ in 2016 and ‘Perfect’ in 2018. His television credits featured appearances in ‘Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists’, ‘Manifest’, and the western series ‘Ransom Canyon’, where he returned as Lucas Russell on July 23, 2026.

Amanda Fix brought her own array of credits to the production. The Canadian actress made her film debut with ‘Broken Diamonds’ in 2021. She appeared in the series ‘Kung Fu’, ‘High School’, ‘Orphan Black: Echoes’, and a streaming series this year. She also played the younger version of Gillian Anderson in the upcoming film ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’, directed by Jane Schoenbrun.

‘The Conjuring: First Communion’ release and franchise expansion
The story for ‘The Conjuring: First Communion’ has not been revealed by the studio, but the prequel has already booked a release date for September 10, 2027, ahead of the Halloween season. Earlier in the year, the studio was also releasing ‘The Revenge of La Llorona’ theatrically on April 9, 2027, as the sequel to ‘The Curse of La Llorona’.‘The Conjuring’ universe had grown to include nine films: ‘The Conjuring’, ‘Annabelle’, ‘The Conjuring 2’, ‘Annabelle: Creation’, ‘The Nun’, ‘Annabelle Comes Home’, ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’, ‘The Nun II’, and ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’, which was released in 2025 and became a major commercial success. The franchise continued to expand with new storylines exploring different aspects of the supernatural world established by the original films.
