A 29-year-old truck driver who immigrated to Canada from India has been identified as the victim in a homicide investigation after his body was found inside a sewage culvert in Hamilton, Ontario.The victim, Taranpreet Singh Sidhu, had moved to Canada in 2022 and had been living in Brampton and Halifax while working as a truck driver.Hamilton Police said emergency crews were called to the north end of Fruitland Road at around 8:15 am on July 15 after receiving reports of an unresponsive person in a culvert. Sidhu was pronounced dead at the scene.Investigators believe the location where his body was found is not the place where he was killed. The Hamilton Police Homicide Unit has since taken over the investigation and confirmed that Sidhu’s death is being treated as a homicide.Authorities have not disclosed the cause of death, saying the investigation is still ongoing.
Police reviewing surveillance, seeking public’s help
Hamilton Police are working alongside the Peel Regional Police to investigate the case. Detectives have been reviewing surveillance footage, digital evidence and interviewing witnesses to trace Sidhu’s movements in the days leading up to his death.Investigators have also conducted an extensive video canvass of the area where the body was found. However, they are not yet releasing details about the vehicle they believe was used to transport Sidhu’s body.Police are requesting anyone who had contact with Sidhu or has information about his whereabouts before his death to come forward. They are particularly interested in surveillance, dashcam or doorbell camera footage that could assist the investigation.
