NEW DELHI: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday demanded Bihar chief minister Samrat Choudhary’s resignation over the alleged harassment of two minor students, including a girl, in Jamui, saying the incident showed that “women and girls are not safe anywhere in Bihar”.Addressing a presser in Patna, the RJD national working president said, “Bihar is being shamed” and alleged that the state had descended into “gundaraaj” under the BJP-led government.Tejashwi also invoked an earlier statement by Choudhary in which the chief minister had said he was ready to resign if anyone was harmed in Munger.“Samrat Choudhary himself had earlier said, ‘Go to Munger… if anything happens to anyone or someone is harmed, I am ready to resign,'” Tejashwi said, referring to the Jamui incident.“Today, this video shows that women and girls are not safe anywhere in Bihar whether during the day or at night, at home or on the streets, in colleges or schools, or in hospitals,” he said.“The way crimes against women and girls are increasing in Bihar is extremely shameful. If Samrat Choudhary stands by his words, he should resign if he has the courage,” Tejashwi said.He added, “If he cannot stand by what he said, then there is no point in having such a boastful chief minister.”The RJD leader also accused members of the ruling alliance of trying to defend the incident. “You all must have seen the video, and the unfortunate part is that those in the ruling alliance are trying to justify it,” he said.The remarks came after a video went viral on Monday showing a boy and a girl being harassed by a group of people on a roadside in Jamui. The video triggered widespread outrage, following which police arrested some of the accused.

However, the main accused in Jamui molestation incident Nandan Yadav was injured in a police encounter, while he was being taken to the crime scene.Tejashwi alleged that the incident was another indication of what he described as the collapse of law and order in Bihar, saying the state was witnessing “gundaraaj”.
