Mohanlal’s upcoming movie ‘Athimanoharam’ has started production in the Pampa region near Sabarimala. The shoot commenced on Tuesday after the Travancore Devaswom Board granted permission for filming in the area. The development comes at a time when questions are being raised about commercial movie shoots at Sabarimala. Kerala Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan had earlier stated that regular film productions should not be allowed at the temple. As reported by Manorama News, the production team has proceeded with its schedule in Pampa for now.
Mohanlal appears as police officer
‘Athimanoharam’ is written by Ratheesh Ravi and directed by Tharun Moorthy. Mohanlal plays Sub Inspector TS Lovelajan in the movie, while Meera Jasmine portrays Naicy. The project is being promoted as Mohanlal’s 366th movie. The makers have scheduled its theatrical release for December 24, 2026.Mohanlal was seen in the uniform of a police officer while shooting in Pampa. The production had secured approval from the Travancore Devaswom Board to film in Pampa and Nilakkal. The team, however, needed separate permission to shoot in areas controlled by the Forest Department.
Forest Department refuses filming beyond Pampa
The permissions granted to the ‘Athimanoharam’ team have differed depending on the jurisdiction of the location. The Travancore Devaswom Board reportedly permitted filming in the Pampa and Nilakkal areas. For locations beyond Pampa, the production team was required to obtain approval from the Forest Department. The department denied permission for filming in those areas. The Forest Department cited the location’s presence within the Periyar Tiger Reserve while refusing the request. This has limited the production’s ability to continue the proposed schedule beyond Pampa.Earlier, the Travancore Devaswom Board had reportedly given approval for filming between Pampa and Sannidhanam, subject to specific conditions.
