The ‘Drishyam’ franchise is set to continue with a fourth instalment. Producer Antony Perumbavoor confirmed in a recent event that ‘Drishyam 4’ will be made, following the success of the third part.Antony Perumbavoor announced the development at the Mazhavil Manorama Awards. He stated that another instalment is certain and described the announcement as something he was saying from his heart.The confirmation arrives months after the release of ‘Drishyam 3’. The third movie in the franchise reached theatres on May 21 and turned out to be a blockbuster.
‘Drishyam 3’ crosses Rs 100 crore milestone
‘Drishyam 3’ entered the Rs 100 crore club within a few days after it’s theatrical release. The third chapter brought Mohanlal back as Georgekutty, but the film had also received mixed reviews from the audiences.The ‘Drishyam’ series began with Mohanlal playing Georgekutty, a family man who becomes involved in a complicated situation while attempting to protect his family.Jeethu Joseph directed the original ‘Drishyam’. The movie became a major success and earned recognition for its crime thriller narrative. Its popularity eventually led to the development of ‘Drishyam 2’ which was streamed directly on OTT and also had a theatrical release, months before the release of it’s third part.The original ‘Drishyam’ also travelled beyond India. It was remade in languages including Chinese and Korean.
Jeethu Joseph had earlier spoken about ‘Drishyam 4’
During an earlier conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Jeethu Joseph revealed that Antony Perumbavoor and the team had repeatedly encouraged him to think about the next chapter after completing each instalment.Speaking about the producer’s approach to the franchise, Jeethu Joseph said, “They said to keep thinking about the story; after the first, keep thinking about the second. Then, while shooting part two, he said let’s start three. Now he’s saying, ‘I think you should work on the fourth one’.”The filmmaker had also explained that he was not interested in rushing into another sequel merely because ‘Drishyam 3’ had achieved a strong box-office performance.Jeethu Joseph had also indicatedin the same interview that he wanted to spend time developing the characters and their next phase. After the third movie, he continued to think about Georgekutty and the possible unresolved elements that could form the basis of another story.On the other hand, both Mohanlal’s daughter Vismaya Mohanlal made her acting debut with ‘Thudakkam’ which also featured Antony Perumbavoor’s son Ashish Ashish Antony in the villain role.
