Swara Bhasker has alleged that her husband, political activist Fahad Ahmad, was detained by the Mumbai Police while participating in a protest at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar. According to the actor, several other demonstrators were also taken into custody and brought to Mahim Police Station. Calling the incident disturbing, Swara described it as a “shameful state of affairs.”On Monday evening, she shared a video on social media showing police personnel escorting Fahad away from the protest venue. In the clip, he can be heard questioning the officers, asking, “Why are you arresting me?” The video was reportedly recorded at around 4.30 pm.
Actor alleges protesters were taken to Mahim Police Station
Posting the video on her social media account, Swara wrote, “Mumbai Police detaining @fahadzirarahmad and other protestors at #chaityabhoomi in Mumbai on 20 July 2026, at 4:30 pm. They are currently being detained at Mahim Police Station. This is India’s democracy. Shameful state of affairs (sic).”Earlier in the day, she had also uploaded another clip, reportedly sent by Fahad from inside a police vehicle after his detention.Alongside that video, the actor wrote, “I received this video at 4:30 pm on July 20, 2026, from @fahadzirarahmad. He asked me to post it. Mumbai Police is allegedly attacking peaceful protesters at #Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai. Those in solidarity, please reach Chaityabhoomi peacefully and in large numbers (sic).”
Police action reported during demonstration
According to sources, several people gathered at Chaityabhoomi to express solidarity with the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest were detained by Mumbai Police. Reports also suggested that some demonstrators sustained injuries during the police action, although officials have not confirmed the exact number of people detained or injured.
Delhi and Mumbai witness parallel protests
The developments in Mumbai coincided with the CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest in Delhi, where thousands of demonstrators assembled and marched towards Parliament.Among those present in the national capital were actors Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj, who joined CJP leader Abijeet Dipke and other protesters in extending support to the movement.While Mumbai witnessed police detentions at Chaityabhoomi, Delhi saw massive participation in the march towards Parliament, making it a day of simultaneous protests in two major cities.
