‘DC’ is heading into the next phase of its journey with an official OTT release date now locked in. The raw, intense action drama, which marked filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj‘s unexpected transition to a full-fledged acting role, is set to make its digital debut following a strong run in theatres.

‘DC’s OTT release date confirmed

According to the latest reports, ‘DC’ will begin streaming on both Amazon Prime Video and Sun NXT starting September 4, giving audiences across regions two platforms to catch the film. The digital premiere is expected to include both Tamil and Telugu versions, allowing viewers who missed the theatrical run to finally experience the film from home.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s new avatar as an actor

Known primarily for crafting some of Tamil cinema’s most iconic on-screen heroes as a director, Lokesh Kanagaraj took a bold turn with ‘DC’ by stepping in front of the camera himself. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film reimagines Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel ‘Devdas’ as a darker, blood-soaked revenge saga, with Lokesh playing Das, an outlaw whose life unravels after corrupt police officers kill the woman he loves, Parvathy. Wamiqa Gabbi stars opposite him as Chandra, a woman fighting to escape a life of exploitation, with their intertwined journey driving the film’s mix of romance, violence and tragedy. Anirudh Ravichander’s music and background score have added significantly to the film’s intensity, with critics praising the performances, action sequences and overall craft since release.

‘DC’s strong box office run

‘DC’ has emerged as one of the year’s biggest surprise hits at the Tamil box office, having crossed the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide during its theatrical run, with the film collecting around Rs 66 crore worldwide in its very first week alone. The film’s success has firmly validated Lokesh Kanagaraj’s decision to step into acting, with his performance drawing praise even from veterans within the industry. What’s next for Lokesh Kanagaraj? With DC now behind him as an actor, Lokesh is set to return to the director’s chair for his next big project — a much-anticipated collaboration with Allu Arjun, tentatively titled AA23, expected to be a major pan-Indian action entertainer. He has also confirmed further expansion of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), keeping his slate packed as both a filmmaker and now, a proven leading man.
