The 72nd National Film Awards brought together several celebrated names from across Indian cinema as winners stepped forward to receive their honours. Smt. Droupadi Murmu, President of India, handed over the awards to the winners during the event, which was quite significant for the filmmakers and technicians whose work has made an impact among the movies released in 2024. From screenplay and music to production design, costumes and stunt choreography, the honours recognised contributions across several areas of filmmaking.
Sukumar , GV Prakash Kumar and Venky Atluri receive National Awards
Among the notable winners was filmmaker Sukumar, who received the National Film Award for Best Original Screenplay for ‘Pushpa: The Rule Part 2.’ Music composer GV Prakash Kumar was honoured with the award for Best Music Direction for ‘Amaran.’ Venky Atluri also received the National Award for Best Dialogue Writer for ‘Lucky Baskhar.’ The winners accepted their respective honours from President Droupadi Murmu, adding a prestigious moment to their careers and celebrating the creative work behind some of the year’s notable films.
Niharika Konidela and other technical winners honoured
The ceremony also recognised films and technicians from different Indian film industries. Niharika Konidela and Yadhu Vamsi received the National Award for Best Telugu Film for ‘Committee Kurrollu.’ Nitin Zihani Choudhary won Best Production Design for ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ while Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma received the Best Costume Design award for ‘Pushpa: The Rule Part 2.’ Their recognition highlighted the importance of visual design and costume work in creating the worlds seen on screen.

Several other technical artists also took home National Awards during the ceremony.
