Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sagarika Ghose on Sunday renewed the opposition’s demand for the removal of chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, urging the government to begin the formal process for his dismissal and take steps to rebuild public confidence in the electoral system. Her remarks came ahead of the INDIA bloc’s major rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.Speaking to news agency ANI, Ghose said the opposition remained united on the issue and maintained that the demands raised during the rally would also find an echo in Parliament. She insisted that Kumar should resign from his post.“Things are about to change significantly. Gyanesh Kumar can no longer remain in his position; he must step down. A motion of impeachment has now been passed. Where will he go, where will he flee, where will he hide? The government must now take formal action, initiate the necessary process, to ensure that Gyanesh Kumar is dismissed,” Ghose said. She further asserted that the opposition would continue its campaign until its demand was addressed.“The voices that will resonate from today’s rally at Ramlila Maidan will echo all the way into Parliament; we stand united, and we will not waver from our demand. Gyanesh Kumar must vacate his post, and the government must make a concerted effort to restore the public’s shattered trust in the electoral process,” she added.

Former Bihar MLA Amit Kumar ‘Tunna’ said the rally, organised by the Congress and other INDIA bloc constituents, aimed to mobilise people to protect their voting rights and oppose what he described as authoritarianism.“The rally organised today by the Congress party and the INDIA alliance aims to convey a clear message: be prepared to protect your vote, your country, and yourselves. We must put an end to the ongoing authoritarianism and dictatorship—and further strengthen the INDIA alliance,” he said.Tunna also pointed out that the gathering could provide an economic boost to local traders, as visitors attending the rally were likely to purchase goods from nearby shops. The opposition INDIA bloc is holding a large-scale ‘Chalo Delhi Ramlila March’ at Ramlila Maidan, demanding CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls. As part of the programme, INDIA bloc MPs are expected to gather at the constitution club before beginning their march at noon from the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction towards Ramlila Maidan.
