‘Suspended over repeated violations’: Taliban takes BBC radio services off air in Afghanistan

The Taliban on Monday accused the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) of “repeated violations” as it suspended the broadcaster’s FM radio services in Afghanistan.“BBC’s activities have been suspended for the time being due to repeated violations committed by it,” Khubib Ghufran, the spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban government’s information and culture ministry, told Reuters. However, he did not elaborate on the violations. The Taliban’s response came after the BBC announced that its radio services in Afghanistan had been suspended, adding that it was working with Afghan authorities to resolve the issue.“Millions of people across Afghanistan rely on the BBC for accurate news and information, and we are working with the authorities to address the situation,” a BBC spokesperson said in a statement.
