He was best known for hits like ‘You Are My Lady,’ ‘Love Me Down,’ ‘Have You Ever Loved Somebody,’ and ‘I Don’t Want to Lose Your Love.‘ The Grammy-winning singer left for his heavenly abode only days after celebrating his 70th birthday on October 2.

The renowned star passed away peacefully in Harlem, New York City, according to the official statement by his family on his Instagram account. The post mentioned October 5 as his date of passing. “Freddie was more than a legendary voice. He was a kind, generous soul who loved his fans, his family, his friends, and his music with everything he had. For decades he gave us the songs that became the soundtrack to our love stories, our celebrations, and our most treasured memories. That gift will live on forever,” the statement read.The post continued to thank and express gratitude to everyone who ever listened to his music, sang along, and supported him in any way they possibly could, adding, “You were family to him, and he carried your love with him always.” The statement lastly asked netizens for some privacy in this time of mourning while promising that they will share more information about how fans will be able to honour Jackson in their own way in a few days.The post concluded, “Rest in peace, Freddie. Who was Freddie Jackson?

Freddie Anthony Jackson was born on October 2, 1956, in the Harlem neighbourhood and was heavily involved in music from a young age. He often joined his youth choir group in church and performed there many times. His musical career officially began during the 1970s when he moved to the West Coast and became the lead singer of the Mystic Merlin band. The band remained fairly active and even released three studio albums together between 1980 and 1982. Later, Jackson returned to New York to work with record producer Paul Laurence in his group, LJE (Laurence Jones Ensemble). He also did demos and background vocals for stars like Melba Moore, Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King, and Angela Bofill.In April 2025, a year after signing his record deal, Jackson released ‘Rock Me Tonight,’ his debut album, which made history and spent around six weeks at the top of the R&B charts at the time and went platinum. Over the years, he released multiple records that became hits soon after their release. In 2023, the singer released his final album, ‘My First Love.’
