Punjab arms network busted: AK-47, grenades seized, accused linked to foreign smugglers

NEW DELHI: Amritsar Rural Police have busted an illegal arms and explosives supply network, arresting one accused.In a post shared by the DGP Punjab Police on X, the police said the operation also resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, live cartridges and two hand grenades.Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused is allegedly linked to foreign-based smugglers and was involved in procuring illegal weapons, police said.An FIR has been registered at Gharinda police station in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act.Further investigation is underway to uncover the wider network and establish its backward and forward linkages, police said.The Punjab Police said it remained committed to maintaining strict vigil against illegal arms trafficking and organised criminal networks and taking firm action against those involved in the illegal supply chain.
