The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has approved a 20% horizontal reservation for former Agniveers in several uniformed services and cleared schemes and projects worth more than Rs 24,500 crore, the state government said.The decisions were taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Mohan Yadav at the state secretariat.The reservation will apply to recruitment for police constables, the Special Armed Force, jail guards, forest guards and excise constables. It will be available across the General Category and reserved categories, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.Under the approved policy, former Agniveers will receive 20% horizontal reservation in police constable recruitment, while Home Guards will get 10% and ex-servicemen 5%.For the Special Armed Force, the allocation will be 20% for former Agniveers, 10% for Home Guards and 5% for ex-servicemen. In jail guard recruitment, 20% will be reserved for former Agniveers, 15% for Home Guards and 5% for ex-servicemen.The same allocation will apply to forest guard recruitment. For excise constable posts, former Agniveers will receive 20% reservation, Home Guards 10% and ex-servicemen 5%.The cabinet approved Rs 5,329.17 crore for payment of honorariums to around 76,000 guest teachers over five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31.It also cleared Rs 348.7 crore for school uniforms and Rs 3,245.8 crore for health centres and drug control, according to the official cited by PTI.The cabinet approved the construction of the Damoh-Katni four-lane road at a cost of Rs 4,470.30 crore and allocated Rs 3,580.22 crore to the Rural Development Fund.It also approved the continuation of major irrigation projects in Banda, Datia, Neemuch and Sagar, along with the Kanh Diversion Project in Ujjain, ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2028.The Rs 348.7-crore allocation for school uniforms will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of parents or students enrolled in government schools from Classes 1 to 8 during the 2026-27 academic year.The government also plans to use guest teachers to fill vacant posts in government primary, secondary, high and higher secondary schools. Madhya Pradesh currently has around 76,000 guest teachers, the official said.

Under the Centre’s Agnipath scheme, Agniveers serve in the armed forces for four years, including six months of training. The scheme provides for retaining 25% of each batch in the Army, Navy and Air Force, while the remaining personnel are released after their tenure.
