The actor recently published his memoir, ‘Never Say Die,’ which encompasses his time in the industry, not getting any work, and getting a boost in his career with ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once.’ In an excerpt from the book, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, Quan opened up about a pleasant surprise that the film’s producer, George Lucas, and the award-winning director, Spielberg, left him with after the ‘Indiana Jones’ film was released.In an industry where most actors did not receive compensation from the film’s box office profits, he revealed that he received a cut after the adventure film made more than USD 300 million at the box office. He shared in the book, “One afternoon, I walked into the kitchen and found my parents standing together at the table. Mom was holding an envelope with my name printed across it. Dad had the papers that had been inside.” Quan had already been paid for his role in the film; however, the director and producer sent him an additional check.“They were both smiling, the kind of smile that comes from surprise and disbelief mixed together. They handed everything to me. It was a check from Lucasfilm. It was for almost $100,000, an amount that didn’t make any sense to me,” he added. The actor also shared, “Back then, almost no actors got a piece of a movie’s profits. Even today, only the biggest stars do. That a kid like me, making his first film, would be included in something like that was unheard of. And Temple of Doom wasn’t some small movie no one was expected to see. It was the sequel to a massive hit, a movie everyone knew would make a lot of money. That made their gesture even more generous.”Calling it a life-changing moment for his family, Quan also commented on how much the extra money meant to his family.For the unversed, Ke Huy Quan played the young sidekick ‘Short Round,’ a witty Chinese orphan in ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ (1984), who accompanied Jones throughout all of his adventures. Quan scored the role after casting calls and auditions were held at his elementary school. Prior to this, he had never acted before.
