PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping offered diplomatic support to Russian President Vladimir Putin to bring the Ukraine war to an end, according to Russian authorities. “During their bilateral meetings, Modi and Xi took a keen interest in Ukraine settlement and actively offered their good offices to help find a solution,” said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, according to a Reuters report. Putin is learned to have welcomed their readiness.Unlike China’s peace blueprint, India has not offered any standalone ceasefire proposal, choosing to play the role of facilitator instead. However, it has gone a step further recently, saying it’s discussing with both sides ideas and suggestions.The past couple of weeks have seen Modi publicly exhorting Putin to stop the “endless” war in a meeting in Bishkek, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar discussing approaches to end the conflict with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, and the PM reiterating his peace message to the Russian president in Delhi.
