'Is getting married really that important? Definitely not': ‘Polladhavan’ actress Ramya says marriage 'does not define' her and reveals she is not focusing on finding a partner

Sandalwood actor Ramya, also known as Divya Spandana, has once again grabbed attention with her candid views on marriage and relationships. While the actor has largely stayed away from film appearances in recent times, she continues to remain connected with fans through social media and public appearances. Her personal life, particularly questions about marriage, has also remained a subject of curiosity among her followers.

Ramya opens up about her views on marriage

During a recent conversation with journalist Nabila Jamal, Ramya was asked about her thoughts on marriage. Her response has since gone viral on social media, with the actor making it clear that she does not consider marriage essential for happiness.“Is getting married really that important? Definitely not. Marriage does not define who I am. We are happy without being married, aren’t we? Being happy is what matters the most. We are often told that either you should be married or you should be happy. You have to choose what you want,” Ramya said. Her comments have sparked a wider discussion about the societal expectations surrounding marriage, particularly the perception that getting married is an essential milestone in a woman’s life.

Ramya says friendship and shared values matter in a marriage

Ramya also clarified that her views do not necessarily apply to everyone. According to the actor, marriage can be a fulfilling choice when two people share a strong friendship, similar values and a deep understanding of each other.“As human beings, we constantly need changes. Perhaps that is where the problem begins. If you are good friends and share the same values, then getting married feels like a good idea. I think people who are married and happy would agree with what I am saying,” she explained. For Ramya, the foundation of a healthy relationship appears to be compatibility and friendship rather than marriage being pursued simply because of social expectations.

Ramya says she has not found the right partner yet

Ramya also addressed one of the most frequently asked questions about her personal life — whether she has found someone she would consider marrying. The actor admitted that she has not met such a person yet and said that marriage is not something she is actively concentrating on at present.“I still haven’t found such a person. I am not even focusing on it. I am busy working. A relationship requires time,” she said.Ramya keeps herself active in cinema by choosing selective films, and she recently played a main role in Upendra’s ‘Raktha Kashmira,’ which was released in January 2026.
