NEW DELHI: Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari’s office said on Tuesday that his remark that the younger generation should be given more responsibility as “he could no longer take on as much work as before”, had been misinterpreted to suggest that he intended to quit politics. In a statement clearly prompted by speculation triggered by the minister’s comment on Sunday, his office emphasised that Gadkari’s remarks were “specifically about the Laxmanrao Mankar Trust”, an organisation established by him that runs Ekal Vidyalayas in tribal areas.

Statement taken out of context, not political: Gadkari’s office
Nitin Gadkari’s office said, “In that context, Gadkari said that he could no longer take on as much work as before and that the younger generation should be given an opportunity to take greater responsibility. His remarks were clearly related to the functioning and future leadership of the Trust. However, some television channels are presenting the statement as a political remark, taking it out of its actual context.”At an event in Nagpur on Sunday, Nitin Gadkari had said that he has been in active public life for over three decades and during his political journey, he has experienced many ups and downs, fulfilled various responsibilities, and received many honours.
