Christopher Nolan ‘s ‘The Odyssey’ continued its impressive run at the Indian box office as it completed its first week at theatres.
The mythological epic has maintained a steady hold over audiences through its first week, becoming one of the biggest Hollywood success stories of the year in India. ‘The Odyssey’ box office collection Day 7
On Day 7, box office reports on Sacnilk indicate that the film earned an estimated Rs 6.15 crore net across 11,111 shows. The latest figures indicate a marginal 5.4 per cent dip in collections from Day 6, when the film earned Rs 6.50 crore net.The film’s English version continued to dominate ticket sales, contributing approximately Rs 5 crore on Day 7. The Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions collectively added an estimated Rs 1.15 crore. With its first-week performance, the epic has now amassed an estimated Rs 90.30 crore net and Rs 107.72 crore gross at the Indian box office.
‘The Odyssey’ among top 15 highest earning Hollywood films in India
With its current collections, the film has already entered the top 15 highest-grossing Hollywood films of all time in India. It now sets its sights on Christopher Nolan’s own ‘Oppenheimer’, which earned a lifetime collection of Rs 128.46 crore during its theatrical run in 2023 and currently occupies the 10th spot on the all-time list.

Despite a slight weekday slowdown, ‘The Odyssey’ still has another weekend to capitalise on before facing major competition. The upcoming weekend is expected to give the film another boost, further strengthening its box office total. The film also enjoys a relatively clear run for another week before the arrival of Marvel Studios’ ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. The Tom Holland-led superhero film is already generating significant pre-release buzz, with exhibitors and trade analysts reporting exceptional advance demand across the country.According to early trade projections, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is expected to open to a staggering Rs 50–60 crore gross on its first day in India, making it one of the biggest opening days ever for a Hollywood title. If the film meets those expectations, it will come within striking distance of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which still holds the record for the biggest opening day by a non-Indian film in the country with an estimated Rs 65 crore gross and went on to earn a lifetime total of Rs 373.22 crore in India. The film stands second to only ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, which earned Rs 378.22 during its lifetime run in the counrty.
Christopher Nolan says ‘The Odyssey’ was ‘origins of superhero stories’
Filmmaker Christopher Nolan has described his upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’ as rooted in the origins of superhero storytelling, likening the ancient Greek epic to modern comic book franchises. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Nolan spoke about the influence of Homer and drew comparisons to contemporary cinematic universes.“Even comic book culture, whether you’re talking about Marvel or DC or all the rest, a lot of it comes directly from the Homeric Epics,” Nolan said, adding, “The thing about Homer is, nobody knows if that was a person. Homer, in a way, is the sort of George Lucas of his time.”He added, “The thing about Homer, it is the Marvel of its day. It’s very directly this desire for us to feel or believe gods could walk amongst us, and I think the modern comic book is kind of our expression of that.”Nolan also praised actor Tom Holland, who plays Telemachus in the film. “He’s amazing. I’ve not worked with him before, but I would love to work with him again. I mean, he’s just an incredible talent. He’s so, so great,” he said.The director further spoke about reuniting with actress Anne Hathaway, who plays Penelope in the film. Speaking about his recent project, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Nolan said, “I watched it last night. It was fabulous. With Emily Blunt as well. Terrific.”
