NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday hit back at Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi after he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of becoming PM and remaining in office with the help of foreign forces. BJP spokesperson C R Kesavan questioned Rahul’s foreign visits and alleged that the Congress leader had sought foreign interference in India’s internal affairs. In a post on X, Kesavan called Rahul a “lousy con artist” and accused him of making misleading claims that backfire. He referred to Rahul’s 2023 speech in London, alleging that the Congress leader had appealed for foreign intervention ahead of the Lok Sabha elections by saying, “It is not just an Indian battle.”

Kesavan also raised questions about alleged links between Congress leaders and organisations associated with billionaire George Soros. He questioned Sonia Gandhi’s alleged association with the Forum of Democratic Leaders in the Asia-Pacific and sought answers from Rahul over his alleged connections with individuals and organisations linked to Soros.“Why has Congress ducked and dodged addressing the allegations of Smt. Sonia Gandhi serving as Co-President Forum of Democratic Leaders in the Asia-Pacific, which backed the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation and has close links to George Soros?”BJP spokesperson further questioned the frequency and purpose of Rahul’s foreign visits, asking whom he meets during these trips and what their agenda is. He claimed that the secrecy surrounding the visits raised concerns over national security and demanded an explanation from the Congress leader. The BJP’s remarks came after Rahul launched a sharp attack on PM Modi on Monday, accusing him of relying on foreign support to secure and retain power.“Mr Modi, stop lying to this nation. You became PM because of foreign help. You remain PM because of foreign help. Your financial system is fully controlled and supported by foreigners. Foreign social media fully backs you,” Rahul said in a post on X.
